Abstract:

In the global information society, the importance of the Internet cannot be overemphasized. That is why the U.S. Government made tremendous efforts to extend full Internet connectivity to twenty countries in Africa through the Leland Initiative in order to promote sustainable development in African countries. The Leland Initiative and other projects initiated by African Governments intend to bring the benefits of the global information revolution to the people of Africa, through connection to the Internet and other Information Technology and Communication (ICT) Infrastructures. Africa needs access to the powerful ICT tools of the Internet in order to obtain the resources and efficiency essential for sustainable development.
