Information Technology for Business Process Management: Case of Croatia

Abstract:

Competition in today’s global economy is now based upon capabilities or complex bundles of skills and accumulated knowledge, exercised through organizational processes. Thus, the concept of business process management (BPM) is becoming increasingly important. Information technology plays the crucial role for BPM implementation and practice. Theoretical part of this paper addresses the importance, defines the role and gives an overview of information technology for BPM, i.e. process information technology. The research conducted in big, middle and small Croatian companies in 2018 aimed to determine their level of business process orientation (BPO) and to examine their use of process information technology. The results of the empirical research have shown that business process informatization in Croatia is still inadequate. Conclusion is that if Croatian companies want to become more process oriented, process information technology has to become an imperative for them.
