Information Technology Offshore Outsourcing Research: A Theoretical Foundation and Practical Implications

Abstract:

Offshore information technology outsourcing is an important and emerging topic within the information systems research. Firms are more and more attracted to this new business arrangement and few empirical results exist in the IS research literature. There is a need for integrating prior works in a comprehensive outsourcing model that would help researchers  adopt a cumulative approach as well as practitioners by providing them a guide that will assist them during the overall offshore outsourcing process. This paper builds on and integrates into Lee’s IT outsourcing evolution model additional dimensions specific to IT offshore outsourcing. The resultant model is a roadmap of IT offshore research and its associated business and research issues. Implications for both researchers and practitioners are discussed.
