Initiating Knowledge Management with the Knowledge Awareness-Possession (KAP) Matrix

Abstract:

Knowledge has been recognized and asserted as an important asset to sustain competitive advantages. There are many studies and reports to depict how organizations devote efforts to manage the knowledge through capturing, codification, dissemination and sharing knowledge, in result of organizational success and desirable performance. However, some organizations with initiative to commence their organizational knowledge management (KM) program encounter ambiguities towards the wide range of KM frameworks while their KM work remains stagnant. Therefore, the paper aims to propose a structured matrix that can be used by the management to understand the KM status in their organizations. Based on the matrix, it is expected that corresponding course of actions can shed lights to management to put forth the KM project.
