Innovation as a Key Factor in Business Competitiveness: An Empirical Study

Abstract:

Business innovation is a key element in regional development and is one of the most important factors in productivity and competitiveness growth of companies. This paper is to propose a methodology that allows determining the level of competitiveness of companies in the Atacama Region. To do this, a survey was applied to companies in the area to know their level of competitiveness. As a result, it was possible to identify that the main factor is the management infrastructure, which is the one supporting the entire value chain, because this is where the strategic decisions are made for the other activities of the organization, such as financial management, HR management, production management, technology, marketing and innovation. One of the factors considered as the most important bases for companies to become competitive is the innovation factor. About the same, the main factors that influence the scarce innovation are the cost factors, the lack of trained personnel, the absence of technological dynamism, the lack of cooperation from the government and the universities.
