Innovation in the Pursuit of Sustainable Manufacturing

Abstract:

By designing and conducting production, humans exert a significant impact on the environment. Its implications are not only what results from sourcing the raw materials intended for use as process inputs but also the waste they generate (during and post production) and the impairment of worker health that they cause (occupational ergonomics).

Since sustainable manufacturing goes beyond innovation alone, the authors have chosen to focus on a case study that explores potential improvements in the manufacture of ceramic sanitaryware and ceramic bathroom products. The paper presents factors that make the replacement of the existing technology advisable in financial terms and outlines selected performance indicators expressed as percentages.
