Innovations and Innovation Management in Health Service Units

Abstract:

Innovation is of key importance for a health care organisation to maintain a competitive position. Thus, medical innovations, their implementation or their proper management is perceived as an indispensable element of operation of health care entities. Also on this account, the study shows the barriers for innovations in health care system and innovation of health care entities which are, first of all, places where new solutions are implemented in medicine. Furthermore, an attempt at assessing innovation management was made. Therefore, the author’s intention is to stress the significance of standardisation in the innovation management process. Management may refer to health care entities, which are often treated as sui generis companies. The author of the paper also draws attention to the flow of information and standards applied in health care. This issue is of vital importance, due to the fact that application of ICT creates a possibility of using new solutions in the area of health service provision.
