Innovative Technology to Improve the Sustainability of Oak Forests to Pests and Diseases in Urban Environment

Abstract:

In urban areas natural factors are accompanied by negative effects of anthropogenic pollution of air and soil, anthropogenic load on woody communities, which reduces their biological stability.
In order to mitigate the risk of development of pests and diseases in forest stands it is necessary to carry out preventive and protective measures. Preventive measures should be directed at maintaining and attracting entomophages. In the presence of dead wood and deadfalls we recommend carrying out sanitation activities in the form of selective sanitary cuttings and dead wood cleaning.  It is advisable to remove not only dry but also dying trees during selective sanitary cuttings in the urban features of the stand. Optimal share of cut down trees should be about 10%, the optimal period between logging is about 3-4 years.
