Abstract:
Being the most commonly used language, English has impact on almost every field of work. More and more universities value the practicability of English incorporating courses of English for Specific purposes in their educational programmes. The purpose of this paper is to study the efficiency of the Insurance English course delivered at Moscow State Institute of International Relations in order to gain some insights into the possible gaps in the current syllabus which may contribute to future modifications and higher quality of the course. To collect data, the study used an anonymous questionnaire distributed among the alumni and current students doing a Master’s degree course in International Insurance and Risk Management. The findings have revealed that most respondents are satisfied with the quality of the course, but they consider it necessary to study more practical materials, which would enable them to practice Insurance English terms in authentic contexts. The results suggest that the course extension will give the teachers more room for maneuver granting an opportunity to choose more specific emphasis and focus on learning pathways tailored to students’ needs.
