Integral Approach to the Analysis of Decision-Making Determinants in an Organization – A Conceptual Framework

Abstract:

The purpose of the paper is to provide a holistic approach to the decision-making determinants in an organization through the application of Integral Theory. The complexity of an organization and its processes makes it subject to various analyses in diverse disciplines. Interdisciplinarity in explaining the essence of an organization is also reflected in the occurrence of a number of determinants having impact on the decision-making process. The existing research gap can be noticed in the absence of both comprehensive and holistic approach to these determinants. It is, however, offered by Integral Theory, representing a metatheoretical model, allowing comprehensive analysis of a selected phenomenon. In the article Integral Theory was used as a coherent framework for understanding and interpreting the determinants which influence decision making in an organization. For the purposes of the paper the respective subject literature was analysed, taking into account four cognitive perspectives. As a result, four mutually complementary groups of the decision-making determinants were identified and referred to as: awareness, competences, social relations and organization (system). The conducted analysis resulted in presenting implications for the decision makers and architects of an organization. The paper is of conceptual nature and presents a proposal for an integral analysis of the decision-making determinants. The research questions formulated in the paper aimed at setting directions for further literature studies and empirical research.
