Abstract:

The scientific research entitled “International Environment for Business: Economic Growth, Sustainable Development, Competitiveness and the Power of Intellectual Capital – Focus on Romanian Business Environment” centers on the analysis of the international environment for business, in the context of economic growth, sustainable development and competitiveness, starting from the idea that there is an undeniable compatibility between economic, human and social development which proves to be able to support over time a balanced development. Additionally, the purpose of this approach is to answer to one of the most important questions that became a great concern in nowadays’ society, namely: “Is sustainable development a solution for the harmonious growth of the international environment for business?” In the same time, this scientific paper emphasizes the role, importance and influence of intellectual capital in the large context of international environment for business. Likewise, this scientific work is keen on presenting the most recent trends and accomplishments specific to the Romanian business environment, hoping that the best practices that Romania borrowed from developed countries can generate effects that are compatible with the expected outcomes. Firstly, this paper describes the general framework specific to the international environment for business, starting from the idea that development is the only way to achieve economic and social progress, but the efficiency of the process depends on the specificity of the development strategy and implicitly on the balance of costs borne by households, economic entities and states. Second of all, this work underlines the fact that economic growth, sustainable development, competitiveness and intellectual capital have the immense power to put into a new light the study of the economic and social development, as the social situation is affected by a wide range of factors, which can also have beneficial effects on other forms of development. Third of all, this study presents the complex case of the Romanian business environment, which led us to the following determining elements: (a) the forms of development interact differently from one region to another, or from one country to another, and the identification of sources / resources that have the capacity to generate a state favorable to society can solve the challenges of poverty or inequality; (b) the analysis of national specificities that hinder development in emerging countries (such as Romania) is of significant relevance, as their economies operate differently (such as, for example, those of underdeveloped countries); (c) learning from / borrowing best practices from developed countries can generate effects that are incompatible with expected outcomes, which makes it necessary to tailor the development process to national needs
