International Management: Doing Business in Central Europe (Specifics of the Czech Business Environment)

Abstract:

Companies get nowadays more and more into the touch with partners from various national cultures and success of such cooperation depends to a great extend on ability of their managers and employees to operate effectively in these international conditions. Culture and cultural differences play an important role in daily work in inter- or even multicultural teams and at international meetings on all levels. This paper contributes to the area of international management and its main aim is to give an overview of the Czech cultural specifics in terms of typical ways of thinking, value orientations and patterns of behaviour. Subsequently, national culture content, organizational culture types and preferred leadership styles in the Czech Republic are presented. The managers and employees of international companies as well as co-operating business partners can benefit from the acquired knowledge of the Czech national culture specifics by gaining a better understanding of cultural aspects which influencing mutual cooperation in the Czech environment. This knowledge could be helpful for everyone who would like to cooperate or establish her or his business in this Central European country.
