Internet Banking Adoption by Individuals: Users and Non-Users

Abstract:

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the influences of specific factors on the internet banking adoption behavior of consumers. The sample consisted of 110 individuals. A structured questionnaire measured influences of perceived convenience, perceived security, perceived usefulness, and acceptance and awareness of internet banking adoption. The findings indicate that gender is not a determinant of internet banking usage, and that education level, income level and age influence internet banking adoption behavior. The main reason stated for not using internet banking is security concerns. Lack of trust of new technology and fear of hacker attacks decrease satisfaction with internet banking security. Understandably, individuals who need interpersonal communication during banking transactions have low levels of internet banking adoption. Frequent internet banking users also have a tendency to prefer branch banking for certain transactions.
