Issues in Blended Learning Based on Lecturer’s Viewpoint; Using Khan’s e-Learning Framework

Abstract:

The perception of instructors in blended learning mode and its connection with their acceptance has received broad attention and precedence over the previous years. The better acceptance from the instructors will strongly evolve in the accomplishment of the blended learning mode. The aim of this study was to examine the issues in higher learning institution based on lecturer’s opinion which drives from their experience with the blended learning implementation in the university. One hundred and fifty-one lecturers from 8 campuses from Universiti Teknologi MARA located all over Malaysia participated in this study. Online questionnaire was used to capture their feedback and suggestions for improvement. Qualitative data analysis method was used to identify the issues and mapped it into the dimensions in Khan’s e-learning framework. Results showed that the most highlighted issues fall into the pedagogical dimension followed by technological, institutional, management, interface design, ethical, resource support and last but not least, the evaluation dimension. Hence, higher education management and ICT provider should consider in providing the required competency and acceptable technology, together with other necessary support to facilitate and motivate the lecturers in carrying out the blended learning approach without much irritation.
