IT Technological Architecture Impact on Technological IT Infrastructure Flexibility: Case of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

In current dynamic and disruptive economic environment the organizational flexibility, enabling organization (enterprise) to quickly react to changes in its environment, is strictly required. As most business activities are supported by IT (Information Technology) also its flexibility, including technological IT infrastructure flexibility which is the topic of this paper, is required. Paper presents  characteristics of IT infrastructure flexibility as well as activities executed by organization in order to improve technological IT infrastructure flexibility, including standardization, virtualization, service  orientation, and technological architecture provisioning.  The main goals of this paper are the following:  to investigate to which extent are these activities executed by the Czech organizations as well as how adoption of these activities is influenced by organization’s attributes (ownership, size); to investigate impact of technological architecture on the scope of activities executed. Based on these goals several research questions are formulated. Data for investigations and answering research questions are gathered/collected by survey of 270 Czech organizations. Survey results, their analysis and conclusions in the direction of technological IT infrastructure flexibility are presented.
