Knowledge Management Pillars – Interplay Between Knowledge, Knowledge Workers and Knowledge Creation

Abstract:

Knowledge is widely considered as business imperative that should be instigated as competitive edge. Likewise, knowledge management is broadly contemplated as a key business agenda. However, concepts about knowledge are still contentious and practices on knowledge management are fragmented making knowledge difficult to harness. In this respect, this paper aims to reconsider knowledge management by integrating the extant scope of knowledge management literature and related disciplines such as organizational learning. Our paper proposes that three interrelated elements – knowledge forms (taxonomy), knowledge workers, and knowledge manipulation activities (creation) can serve as the initial thrust to assess KM. In addition, a conceptual framework is proposed to link up the three requisites that instigate the dynamism in knowledge management. Given the propositions and expandable arenas of the conceptual work, it is expected that our future results can promote a sensible discourse and constructive rethinking on knowledge management for both practitioners and researchers.
