Abstract:
It is evident that schools require effective leaders and managers if they are to achieve success and provide a quality education for their learners. Thus, the researcher deemed it imperative to study the leadership and management competencies of the school heads after they have undergone the School Heads Development Program: Foundation Course (SHDP:FC). Descriptive survey design was employed in the conduct of the study to measure leadership and management competencies of the school heads. The respondents are the 12 school heads who undergone the development program, 48 teachers and 96 internal stakeholders of Integrated Area Development I (IAD1) of DepEd Southern Leyte Division. The findings of the study revealed that the participation of the school heads to the SHDP:FC have significantly affected the school performance. Trainings had remarkably improved management competencies of school heads which consequently resulted to better school performance. Hence, a capability building program is recommended to sustain and further enhance the leadership and management competencies of the school heads.
