Abstract:
Purpose of the article is to provide an overview of the original ideas and theoretical approaches in the field of leadership within management. Especially their development since 20 years of the 20th century. However the study analyze the causes of leadership concept from the very beginning of human society. Subsequently are examined particular epochs of human society from a historical and economic perspective to find a connection with the gradual emergence of the first theoretical ideas that laid the foundations to development of leadership. When discuss used methodology, there were made the analysis and synthesis of available scientific information in academic articles and scientific publications with focus on journals within Emerald database: Leadership & Organization Development Journal; Strategy & Leadership and Journal of Management Development. The aim of this study is to define the differences between management and leadership. Subsequently to provide an overview of previously published studies in the field of leadership theory. The contribution is the identification of the different approaches and schools of thought to obtain holistic view and the ability to perceive leadership as part of management in all its contexts. Identified relations provides better understanding of the topic and are subsequently a basis for processing research in the current state of managerial competencies in Czech corporations.
