Abstract:
Peruvian micro and small enterprises (MSEs) constitute 99.08% of Peru’s business density and have the highest rate of problems in performing and managing their operations. This precedent is reflected in the high expenses and costs incurred, creating low profitability in their activities. Peruvian MSEs have found an extremely difficult bridge to gap in order to improve the main areas and become more competitive in the market. One of the main problems of the enterprises in this sector is warehouse management; it is known that 49.9% of the companies in the country have warehouses and that, out of this total, 41.9% have some type of problem when storing their products. This article has selected an MSE from the textile sector as a case study, and this is where the Warehouse Management Model based on DMAIC methodology is applied. This method seeks to improve processes in the area and achieve its objective, continuous improvement, and cost reductions. To implement the model, the various techniques and tools used were grouped into five phases of the DMAIC methodology, and then, they were divided into 3 pillars: purchases, indicators, and location and storage. These are the ones most relevant for organizations with the aforementioned characteristics.
