Abstract:
This qualitative study, employing a narrative research design, investigates the complex significance of Iloilo's Calle Real and its Spanish-era structures. Through in-depth interviews with a diverse group of residents, conservationists, historians, tour guides, and elderly locals, the research reveals the street's historical legacy and the challenges of preservation amidst modernization. Findings highlight the need to balance progress with the preservation of architectural heritage and intangible cultural identity. The study suggests areas for further research—including comparative analysis, heritage tourism, technology-driven engagement, comprehensive architectural study, and the inclusion of marginalized and youth perspectives. This work emphasizes the importance of holistic heritage conservation strategies that honor Calle Real's multifaceted value, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
