Legislative Acts as a Source for the Study of the Mari Region Forestry History of XIX-early XX Centuries*

Abstract:

The article analyzes the main legislative acts adopted by the Russian government concerning forestry in the XIX – early XX centuries, and defines the specifics of their implementation on the territory of the Mari region. The key directions of the state policy in the sphere of timber trade and management features of forest economic sector are revealed. It is underlined that most of the government’s decisions in the period under review were aimed at forest protection and conservation, as well as reforestation.
