Abstract:
Food consumption in Malaysia has been frequently debated, neither for the question of its nutrition nor for the freshness of the food, but for one ultimate concern: HALAL. Recently, Malaysia’s latest claim to be one of the halal hubs in the world was put to test due to the unbelievable result of recent raid carried out by the Malaysia’s authority. The finding was appalling and unethical as some so-called halal foods and some of the so-called halal premises do not comply with the regulation set by the Malaysia’s authority, thus making the food prepared by this so-called halal premises no longer halal and may not be consume by the Muslims. Stringent inspections were carried out where massive tracking were involved to link the food product with its processor. The commotion pertaining to this issue was immense. Muslim consumers in Malaysia began to question the effectiveness of food tracking in Malaysia’s market. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and to identify appropriate solution on halal tag tracking with real time update mechanism for the usage of end users and for the usage within the halal hub participants. The RFID tag tracking technology is proposed in this paper as a tracking tool.
