Abstract:
This article presents the problem of designing external lightning protection system installed on buildings, being the structures of great importance in terms of safety. Extensive electrical and electronic equipment is installed in such structures. Lightning protection consists of equipping such structures with an external lightning protection system, including radio installations outside the building. Comprehensive protection should be provided for all electronic devices installed inside the structure on the power supply and signal transmission side. Stationary structures of strategic importance to public safety are described as an example. The most significant source of lightning-induced electromagnetic disturbances is described, as well as the potential fire hazard that can occur during a lightning discharge. Components of outdoor lightning protection system are presented, as well as principles of its selection and method of designing taking into account requirements of current standards. The problem of protecting buildings against fires caused by lightning was also presented.
