Local Approach to Forecasting Household Gas Consumption in Poland: A Comparison of ARIMA and ETS with Fuzzy Methods

Abstract:

In this study, we wanted to find out which approach - fuzzy or statistical - is better at predicting household gas usage in Poland at commune level. We used data from geographical areas in Poland. Each time series in dataset is short, meaning they didn't have a lot of information. This type of data is known as a "short time series." For those unfamiliar with the term, it simply means that the records we looked at had only a few observations. Our goal was to see which method gave the most accurate predictions for this kind of data. The results are important because they can help gas companies and decision-makers in Poland understand which method to trust when planning for the future.
