Abstract:

Public cultural policy is not just formulated and executed at the national level; it is also the domain of the cities and regions. Local and regional governments in different countries are more and more frequently becoming to appreciate the role of culture in socio-economic development and they institute a separate policy/strategy dedicated to the cultural field. In Poland, most of the large cities and regions began to formulate such policies at least a decade ago, and nowadays more attention is dedicated to sound implementation of the adopted policies. It should be recognised that the governance relationship in local/regional cultural policy is of fundamental importance to the policy outcomes.
