Local Government Green Management Practices

Abstract:

Nowadays, local government typically provide basic urban services, law enforcement, solid waste management, public utilities, regulating business and commerce through licensing and enforcement of standards and collecting taxes. The rapid urbanisation of the country, the need for prudent financial management, as well as the rise in environmental awareness among the local population have resulted in extra pressures on the ways with which local authority performs its obligatory and non-obligatory functions. Local government top management has been pressured to cut costs but maintain high level quality services. Therefore this study has been identified the use of Green Management Practise (GMP) by local government to reduce the annual budget and protect the environment. The online services are the main element for GMP initiative by local government for this study. The study was carried out to determine the level of satisfaction in term of online services among local residents. It was survey of 590 respondents randomly selected in residential area in Manjung Town. Out of the total samples, 95 percent respondents use the online services. Meanwhile, 84 percent of respondents are satisfied with the online services. Besides that, the study also found that the internet speed have a significant relationship with the online services usage. This study suggested that, local government should increase the online services to reduce budget and protect the environment simultaneously.
