Abstract:
Nowadays, trekking is an increasingly popular form of sport and a tourist activity. It is a form of tourism most commonly based on walking long distances. There are many types of trekking, but the most popular form is mountain trekking. It is a combination of climbing and hiking. Trekking is distinguished by different levels of difficulty which depend on the terrain topography, the heights reached, the weather conditions or the length of the chosen route. There is a tendency to reach higher and higher peaks in the shortest possible time, taking into account the lowest possible expenditures.
Although the experience of the participants and support for modern achievements in the field of telecommunications technologies contribute to higher quality of expeditions, it is logistics that combines all the activities that contribute to the implementation of projects and allows efficient use of resources taking into account the objective of the expedition and the requirements for the participants. For this purpose, knowledge and logistic concepts, such as Just-In-Time are used, as well as operational techniques of project planning, such as the CPM, Critical Path Method, and the method of project verification and evaluation, PERT, Program Evaluation and Review Technique; the use of these increases the control over logistic processes covering the expedition project and efficient planning and management of resources.
The chapters below discuss the importance of logistics and its elements in trekking expeditions and include a detailed discussion of the stages of the organization of an example expedition.
