Management of the Renewable Energies – Current Status and Priorities for Romania

Abstract:

Over the past 15 years, global energy consumption has increased by 36%, mainly due to China and India's economic growth. The intensive use of fossil fuels, especially during the post-crisis period and especially in the Asian countries, has led to the doubling of CO2 emissions between 2000 and 2014. The pollution rate has steadily increased in Romania also, which is why the European Commission has requested immediate action in a few Romanian cities, before applying drastic financial sanctions. Our paper presents, analyzes and demonstrates that Romania has great potential in producing renewable energy and has made significant progress over the last decade. The aim of our research is to identify major action priorities to increase the share of renewable energy in total energy production in Romania. Other specific objectives we pursue are: to present the main changes in the management of renewable energies in Romania; to analyze the changes in the international environment that have taken place in the field of renewable energies, to present and to analyze the renewable energy potential in Romania and to formulate revision proposals of the Romanian state policies in the field of renewable energy. For this aim we used data from the World Bank, from the World Bioenergy Association, from the Employers' Organization of Renewable Energy Producers in Romania (PATRES) and the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).
