Managerial Considerations Regarding the Modernization of District Heating Companies in Eastern Europe

Abstract:

Currently, the cheapest alternative to supply thermal energy is district heating, which uses mainly conventional fuels as heating source. This system is facing challenges – related to losses in the distribution network, production costs, usage of alternative fuels and customers’ degree of satisfaction. All these challenges can be addressed by an appropriate management system. As a typical case for the Eastern Europe district heating system, we present the Romanian situation and particularly, the case of the local district heating company of Timisoara, SC Colterm SA. The current situation of the company is presented along with possible managerial solutions regarding the modernization of the district heating system.
