Managing Change at Universities: An Empirical Experience

Abstract:

The study aims to explore the experience of Malaysian universities at managing change while upgrading their performance through new innovations. In this study, the intellectual capital model suggested by Stiles and Kulvisaechana (2003) which consists of three capitals (3Cs) – human capital, social capital and organisational capital are used as tools to manage change and improve performance. With the use of in-depth data from three case studies of top Malaysian universities, the study maps out the innovations that the universities have made to strengthen its human, social and organisational capital arrangements. The result of this study will benefit any education institutions which striving at managing change and aiming to be a high performing organisation.
