Managing Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emission and Energy Consumption in Aluminum Industry for Sustainable Manufacturing Growth

Abstract:

It is a known fact that the whole world is experiencing a global warming phenomenon. The fact that, this situation happens due to mankind's industrial activities, is well accepted. A more important challenge to endure is to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emission and as well as, curtailing energy demand. It is always very imperative to research on ways to mitigate sources of global warming to ensure sustainable growth. Metal processing chain, conversion of raw materials to finished products, is attributed to a significant portion of contributor to CO2 emission and a major industrial consumer of energy. Aluminium, the focus metal type in this paper, is almost fully recyclable due to its very low oxidizing capability. This paper proposes approaches to reduce CO2 emission and energy consumption for sustainable manufacturing growth and more holistic economic development to enhance global competitiveness, in term of world’s resources. At the end of this paper, impacts on managers and policy makers are also being discussed, in relation to ways CO2 and energy could be reduced in aluminium industries.
