Measuring Institutional Support Strategies and Effectiveness of Job Responsibilities of Academic Staff

Abstract:

 This study examines the influence of institutional support initiative on the effectiveness of academic staff core job responsibilities in some selected private universities in Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for the assessment of the subject matter. Six hundred (600) respondents were surveyed across all the colleges of the sampled institutions with the use of multi-stage (purposive, stratified and simple random) sampling techniques. Only four hundred and twenty nine (429) copies of questionnaire representing (71.5%) response rate were returned and used for this study. In order to find the level of influence and the strength of relationship between independent and dependent variables, Structural Equation Model (AMOS 22) was used for the analysis. Results show that research support, pedagogical support and technical support are predictors of Academic staff responsiveness to quality research productivity, quality knowledge sharing and administrative efficiency. The study emphasised the need for review of the various institutional supports in order to determine the appropriateness and relevance of the initiative. This study will contribute to the current knowledge and data in the area of human resource management education and employee performance. The discovery and profound insights from this study would help management and other stakeholders in education sector to develop and invest in appropriate institutional support that will enhance job effectiveness.
