Self-Control and Retirement Planning Behavior among the Employees of Oil and Gas Industry: The Mediating Effect of Saving Intentions

Abstract:

Saving for retirement is a difficult problem, and most employees have little knowledge and cannot control their behavior which can draw in making the good decision. Perhaps, as a result, the employees relatively passive to make a decision to save for their retirement. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of perceived behavioral control with appearance of self-control towards saving intentions and retirement planning behavior among Malaysian Oil and Gas skilled employees. The conceptual framework employs the theory of planned behavior to measure the relationship between variables. Therefore, as a contribution to the literature, the present paper theoretically conceptualizing self-control has a connection with perceived behavioral control to influence saving intentions and retirement planning behavior. The primary data will be used that will be collected through a survey. The survey employed the quantitative method using the self-administered questionnaire. The target population is the Malaysian Oil and Gas skilled employees. The data collection will carry out using SPSS for statistical software and PLS-SEM analytical for testing the relationship among hypotheses. Most importantly, the result from this study will provide effective knowledge to increase saving rates for retirement in order to maintain their lifestyle in their retirement years.
