Medical Tourism Of The EU Patients Treated In Romania: An Analysis Of The Relevant Indicators

Abstract:

Romania's accession to the EU in 2007 led to the transposition of community legislation into national health legislation. EU citizens acquired more rights to the medical treatment in Romanian territory. Starting with the legislative base and continuing with the analysis of relevant indicators referring to the EU citizens who benefited from medical services in Romania, it is noted that the number of them is growing. In order to present an overview of the situation of EU patients treated in Romania in spa resorts, state and private clinics, were selected from the Romanian statistical bases the arrivals, overnights and documents for reimbursement of medical services expenses. The approach was chosen in the context of European patient dynamics and it was supported by the analysis of reports and statistics developed at the EU level. Stable and rising, the Romanian medical tourism market is not developed to the same extent as the markets of other Central and Eastern European countries. Taken into consideration, the few proposals listed at the end of this approach could help to develop medical tourism on Romanian territory.
