Abstract:
The overall objective of food security assessment is to measure the degree of food insecurity and to understand the risks and vulnerabilities in the agri-food sector, in order to build sustainable resilience programs. The main objective of this article is to present, by the method of comparison, the principles of an initial food security assessment in determining the complementary agricultural strategic assessment. Also, a series of particularities are identified, regarding the purpose of the agri-food security evaluation, its field of application, as well as the role of information in the field of agri-food security. The research clarifies the importance of the two assessments on measuring food security, which are necessarily based on socio-economic surveys, in order to determine the livelihoods of the community monitored and identified as being vulnerable to a possible food crisis. The omission of these framework assessments could lead to inappropriate decisions or the implementation of inefficient actions and programs in combating food insecurity, as the resulting strategic agricultural indicators will be used in the agri-food security evaluation itself.
