Migration and Changes to the Socioeconomic Behavior of Local Communities: A Lesson from an Emerging Local Industrial Estate

Abstract:

This migration study will be concerned with the effect of migrants’ socioeconomic behavior on the region of origin and region of destination. In a migration, one will move from one area which he/she comes from to a destination. The destination area to be discussed in this research is the Perawang industrial estate. It aims to find out about the driving factors for one to migrate, whether they be push factors, pull factors, or accessibility. Migration led to an increase in population in the Perawang industrial estate as well as social interactions between newcomers (migrants) and local people (non-migrants). Such influx of newcomers eventually induced changes in the socioeconomic behavior of the local people.
