Abstract:

Mobile devices are growing on a very fast rhythm. It is estimated that by 2013 there will be about 1.1 Billion smartphones on use. This rapid growth allied with the appearance of mobile marketplaces where mobile applications can easily be bought or downloaded allows mobile applications to play a big role on the software business on the present days. This quick growth on smartphone numbers and the appearance of marketplaces where mobile applications can easily be bought or downloaded is turning mobile development into a big market. It’s also estimated that about 8% of the world web browsing is coming from mobile devices, and as mobile internet access become cheaper, the number tends to increase. This situation leads to an opportunity on the marketing field: Mobile Advertising. Whether it is a dedicated marketing application, or advertisements embedded into third-party applications and websites, it represents millions of accesses and thus millions of people viewing those advertisements. Many mobile applications and mobile oriented websites contain advertising, which represents millions of visualization every day. In this article it is discussed the way mobile advertising can add value to a company’s marketing plan and explain the different types of mobile advertising [1,3].
