Modernizing IT Infrastructure in Academia: A Case Study from AGH University of Krakow

Abstract:

The paper presents the modernization of the IT infrastructure at the Department of Applied Computer Science, AGH University of Krakow (Poland). The project unified user management, laboratory systems, and virtualization techniques within a single environment based entirely on open-source and free software. A custom Department Panel was developed as the central access point for students and staff. A student survey confirmed a high level of satisfaction and indicated that modern IT services are an important factor influencing university choice. The presented approach provides a practical and replicable model for academic infrastructure reform.
