Abstract:
The origin of banking structure, in Morocco,is closely related to the process of colonial infiltration in the early 20th century, in which French groups and other European groups played a key role. In fact, once established, the banking system had to finance and facilitate a company known as "protectorate.". In the aftermath of independence, the banking sectorhad to undergo profound changes due to new socio-political and economic conditions. The Dahir of March 2, 1973 on "Moroccanization" greatly changed the landscape of the Kingdom's banking and financial sectors.
The purpose of our research is to contribute to the study of the economic history of the 20th century Morocco, trying to raise the issues and the methodological concerns into writing an economic history of the near past, and this, before shedding light on the Moroccanization of banks as a socio-economic policy, after the protectorate. In other words, we will try to focus on how such a study can reveal the shadows on the present time economic and social history of Morocco.
