Multimedia Database Systems Issues in Access, Retrieval and Architecture

Abstract:

Multimedia at the level it is now, is probably the most diverse and complex culture of the world. A basic need of the multimedia phenomenon is to have a unique system to facilitate search in the data catalogs. Some areas of specific systems and architectures have been proposed, but until now a complete architecture, generally accepted has not been developed. The variety that defines multimedia leads to a dilemma reflected in the diversity of media formats. Currently, media formats extensively used, such as video (MPEG, MOV, WMV etc.), audio (MP3, OGG, MIDI, etc.), images (JPEG, GIF, PNG) and documents (PPT, PDF, TXT, etc.) serve as sources of information and data archiving methods. This fact raises the question of organization and indexing of large collections of data using standard methods, independent of the data types.
