Abstract:

The foundations for the sustainable management of mineral resources have been laid through a review of the concepts of sustainable development, their links with mineral resources, natural resources national policies and management programs. Natural resources are an important part of the sustainability considerations of any country, thus being essential for a sustainable future, as well. Using these resources is fundamental to human well-being, because they are essential, practically, for all sectors of the economy, underpinning the environment people have built and provides them with the desired services. For this reason, for the sustainable management of natural resources, appropriate policies are needed to enable their economic and efficient use. Therefore, this paper identifies and presents European natural resource management policies (for crude oil, natural gas, coal and mineral ores) applicable in Romania.
