Abstract:
The over – consumption society is a widely discussed subject and the specialists who have contributed in studying this phenomenon belong to various interdisciplinary fields. As analysing the effects of the new consumerism, specialists delimitate a number of results that have been recorded once the consumers’ practices tend to change. As a natural consequence of the shifts in consumers’ attitudes, the health of the environment is of great interest in both theory and practice. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the problems that Romania’s environment has faced since December 1989, when the post – communist economy was born and the consequences of these problems on the economic growth in this country. The analysis aims to include aspects related to the impact of using new technologies in several fields of Romanian economy, on the pollution level and energy consumption especially in big cities.
