Abstract:
The fact that countries observe the principles provisioned by the UN Charter regarding self-defense, self-determination, sovereign and equality must not determine a unidirectional behaviour of their part regarding arms trafficking. The article presents the methods for the assessment and control of arms trafficking, from the perspective of the international organizations involved in regulating the phenomenon. It reviews the latest trends on the global arms market, the importance transparency has regarding these transfers and also the issues of the illegal arms trade.
