Numerical Analysis of the Influence of Modifications of the Billet on the Composite Extrusion Process

Abstract:

This paper presents the results of numerical studies on the extrusion of composite materials with a parallel-layer structure to obtain magnesium alloy sections with an anti-corrosion aluminum coating. The conducted the extrusion process under different process conditions allowed to determine the influence of the layer arrangement in the ingot on the effect of extrusion of the composite using a convex die. In the case of the parallel layer arrangement for which tests were carried out for two values of extrusion ratio and two input thicknesses, it was observed that when materials are extruded with a extrusion ratio of l=12 and an initial layer thickness of 10 mm, the process ends with reaching a critical value of the layer thickness passing into the coating and breaking the material. Hence, in this case it is important to select appropriate geometric parameters of the charge components so that the process runs correctly.
