On the Need for Big Data Analytics in the Era of Digitalization

Abstract:

With the large use of disruptive technologies and the digitalization challenges, firms are continuously facing concerns linked to the storage and analysis of increasing volumes of digital data from different sources and in various formats. Thus, firms are required to develop big data analytics capabilities. However, adopting and using these analytics remain challenging due to various technological and managerial problems. This research attempts to study the main issues linked to big data analytics from a theoretical perspective. Through a literature review, three groups of barriers to big data analytics are identified (technological, human and organizational). Combined with a two-factor theory perspective, these groups are integrated into a framework for big data analytics adoption and use.
