Open Innovation in Rail Industry: An Exploratory Study-Case

Abstract:

Building on the open innovation model proposed by Chesbrough (2003), a case study research strategy is developed. Qualitative data collection and analysis methods are combined complementing and extending prior research. A survey was applied to the target rail sector company, and semi-structured interviews were also held with relevant agents. Results show that firm innovation strategy is relatively quite open regarding the outside-in or outbound innovation manners, but it is not too open concerning the inside-out activities.
