Abstract:

This article describes the circumstances surrounding the enactment of the Polish act introducing freedom of economic activity. It briefly characterizes the Polish economic system as one of the Eastern Bloc countries, particularly the limitations on conducting business, and highlights Poland's economic situation in the late 1980s. It then describes the most important changes introduced by the act. Finally, it characterizes the impact of these changes on the process of economic transformation in Poland.
