Abstract:
Nowadays, Location-Based Services (LBS) play a new source for mobile operator to enhance effectively the service offering. Currently, Gulf countries are lacking in number of researches about (LBS) and especially in Oman. Location-Based Services (LBS) refers to localization of products and services at any physical location and any particular moment. These services provide end users the ability to find the nearest location (ATM, restaurant, hotel, hospital, etc); locate others; get emergency assistant; and receive marketing offers from nearby business establishments. This paper discusses the new opportunities and obstacles facing businesses by implementing Location-based services (LBS) in Oman in terms of business to consumer prospective. Some interviews had been conducted and 100 questionnaires had been distributed randomly to students and stuffs in the College of Commerce and Economics, SQU. The result of analysis shows that Oman has the infrastructure needed for implementing LBS. In addition; the majority of Omanis believe that such LBSs are useful especially Location-based Advertising and Navigation Services. However, the low awareness of technology and such services will delay the implementation of LBS in Oman. Some operators are expected that LBS will be implemented at the end of 2009.
