Organisational Knowledge Utilization in Nigeria’s Telecommunication Industry and it’s Implications for Management Practice

Abstract:

The objective of this research was to examine organisational knowledge utilization in Nigeria’s telecommunication industry. The study was establish on the tenets of the resource based view, as an indication that organisational knowledge is an essential intangible resource that can achieve and sustain organisational competitiveness, if it is properly managed. A sample of 504 managerial and administrative and technical employees in the four most active telecommunication organisations in the Nigerian GSM sub market of the telecommunication industry was determined for the research study. Descriptive analysis was used to show respondents’ views of organisational knowledge utilization. Findings revealed that employees’ responsiveness towards individual-tacit knowledge is low as opposed to individual-explicit knowledge. The study recommended that management should emphasise more on the use of individual-tacit knowledge to ensure enhanced differentiation for their organisations, and by extension achieve higher levels of competitiveness.
