Abstract:
Insurance coverage in a local self-government unit, and in particular in a municipality as the basic entity forming local self-government in Poland , contributes (as a risk management method) to meeting the needs of the local government community as a whole and individual needs. Insurance as an effective method of protection against financial consequences of random events minimizes the disruption of public services (e.g. maintenance of transport routes, ensuring safety) and social services (e.g. education and health services) . Due to the significant degree of use of the insurance method in the risk management of municipalities, the sphere of the way and correctness of concluding insurance contracts by these entities should be thoroughly analysed. This article presents selected organizational and legal problems existing at the stage of acquiring the insurance protection of municipalities.
